Training That Transforms Lives, One Dog at a Time

Founded in 2019 by certified applied animal behaviorist Sarah Mitchell, Global Good Dog was born from a simple belief: every dog deserves to be understood, and every owner deserves the tools to build a joyful relationship with their companion. What started as a one-person operation working out of Austin dog parks has grown into a team of five certified professionals who have helped over 2,500 dogs and their families.

We specialize in the cases other trainers shy away from — the reactive dogs, the anxious dogs, the dogs with complex behavior histories. Our approach combines the latest in canine cognitive science with genuine compassion for both ends of the leash. Every training plan we create is as unique as the dog it serves, because cookie-cutter methods produce cookie-cutter results, and your dog deserves better than that.

Real Results From Real Dog Owners

Our clients' words speak louder than any certification. Here is what Austin families are saying about their experience with Global Good Dog.

★★★★★

After our golden retriever started resource guarding his food bowl, we were genuinely scared. Sarah came to our home, watched the behavior without any judgment, and within six sessions, we could safely hand-feed him treats near his bowl. She taught us what was happening in his mind and gave us tools to manage it long-term. That was eleven months ago and we have not had a single incident since.

We adopted a three-year-old pit bull mix from the shelter who was terrified of men, loud noises, and other dogs. Marcus worked with us for four months on a desensitization plan that was incredibly patient and methodical. Today, Rocky walks calmly past other dogs, lets my husband pet him, and even tolerates the vacuum cleaner. The transformation has been life-changing for our whole family.

★★★★★

Our border collie was pulling so hard on walks that my wife could not walk her safely. We had tried two other trainers who used choke chains and it only made things worse. Jordan at Global Good Dog spent the first session just letting Pepper decompress and sniff around — no commands, no corrections. By session four, Pepper was loose-leash walking past squirrels. The positive approach made all the difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can begin training your puppy as early as 8 weeks old. In fact, puppies are most receptive to learning between 8 and 16 weeks of age during their critical socialization window. Our Puppy Foundation Training program is designed specifically for dogs 8 weeks to 6 months, focusing on socialization, bite inhibition, house training, and basic manners. The earlier you start with positive reinforcement training, the stronger your foundation will be for a well-behaved adult dog. We recommend scheduling your first session within the first week of bringing your puppy home.

No. Global Good Dog exclusively uses science-based positive reinforcement methods. Research consistently shows that reward-based training produces better long-term results, stronger human-dog bonds, and fewer behavioral side effects than punishment-based approaches. Our certified trainers use techniques endorsed by the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior. We never use prong collars, shock collars, alpha rolls, or intimidation tactics. Punishment may suppress behavior temporarily, but it often creates new problems like fear, anxiety, and redirected aggression.

Our training programs range from $45 per group class session to $175 per private session for specialized service dog training. Most clients invest between $600 and $1,800 for a complete training program of 6 to 12 sessions. We offer package discounts of 8 to 12 percent for multi-session commitments. The exact cost depends on the type of training, your dog's specific needs, and whether you choose in-person or virtual sessions. Use our Training Cost Calculator for a personalized estimate, or contact us for a free 15-minute phone consultation with no obligation.

Yes. Aggression rehabilitation is one of our core specialties. Our lead behaviorist, Sarah Mitchell, holds a CAAB certification and has worked with over 400 cases involving fear-based aggression, resource guarding, dog-directed aggression, and territorial behavior. We begin with a comprehensive 90-minute behavior assessment to identify triggers, thresholds, and underlying emotional states. Then we build a customized desensitization and counter-conditioning plan. We coordinate with your veterinarian to rule out pain or medical contributors, and in complex cases, we bring in our consulting veterinary behaviorist, Dr. Emily Vasquez.

Yes. We offer live virtual training sessions via Zoom for clients anywhere in the United States. Virtual sessions are available for puppy training, obedience, behavior modification, and follow-up consultations. Many behavior issues can be effectively addressed through video coaching, where we observe your dog in their natural home environment and guide you through exercises in real time. Virtual sessions are typically $15 to $25 less per session than in-person sessions and can be just as effective for most training goals. Our virtual clients receive the same homework materials, resource library access, and follow-up support as our in-person clients.

Our team holds the highest credentials in the dog training profession. Lead behaviorist Sarah Mitchell is a Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (CAAB) and Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA). All trainers on our team hold at minimum a CPDT-KA from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, which requires 300 or more hours of hands-on training experience, references from veterinarians and clients, and passing a rigorous exam covering learning theory, ethology, animal husbandry, and instruction skills. Our consulting veterinary behaviorist, Dr. Emily Vasquez, is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (DACVB).
